Classic. Fresh. Warm

We love it when our clients call us back – After two projects for their office spaces, our clients came to us for help with re-imagining their home on the North Shore. The result is a stunning, fresh design with a new energy that flows from room to room.

In the dining room, the ¾” starfire (super-clear) glass buffet surface and custom stainless brackets were their own little mini-project, well worth it for the wow factor.  The oh so important small details included recessed areas of drywall ceiling over the kitchen island and dining table, and companion fabrics for the dining chair seats and backs.

Let the sun shine in! The old kitchen had a typical layout where the sink is framed under a small window.  The configuration was reworked, changing the circulation pattern to enjoy new full height windows looking out to the back patio.  Forest green wall tiled were removed to make way for lighter, fresher finishes.

Quality pieces (including a dining room table and chairs, a cherry media unit, and a custom creamy sectional) were refurbished and leather sofas were re-stained and freshened with new accessories and custom pillows.  A new paint scheme and a new dark finish on the flooring perfected the flow between rooms.

A family heirloom piece (an oak bench with broken spindles) was lovingly restored and found a prominent place in the new design to display antique music boxes.  The corner cabinet was refinished and the interior modified for media and game storage.  How about that ‘before’ picture of the old fireplace? (yikes!)

The finishing touches – placing all of the client’s artwork, a few new accessories …and the whole first floor looks new.  We loved being part of it all. Happy clients, happy us!

Yours, Mine and Ours

This beautiful project completed in Bethesda, MD is the third project we’ve done for our long time client, the first for the newlyweds uniting ‘yours, mine and ours’ into their lovely newly built home.

Our first step was to evaluate all of their current furnishings and window treatments for creative re-use, combining old and new.   We filled in the blanks with beautiful new furnishings to create a  gracious living room with an elegant oversized area rug, comfortable  lounge furniture along with leather,  glass and silver leaf occasional tables.  Glass lamps, passed down through the generations, frame the back of the sofa on the custom console table.  The completed dining room is the perfect example of our clients creating their  new style together:  his dining table, her upholstered chairs, their new chandelier – stunning combination.

For her home office she chose a textured leather covered desk, a reimagined curved back wing  chair and silver leaf/glass nesting tables.  A custom strie wool area rug and lovely patterned and textural  floor to ceiling window treatments, roman shades, plantation shutters  in the first floor rooms completed the details.

The home’s four bedrooms and stair landings combined many of the couples existing family furniture, art pieces and reworked custom drapery as well as additions of new bedding and accessories.  The basement was transformed into a cozy and stylish family room setting with leather ottoman/bronze accents, large wood tray with Asian glazed ceramics and swivel lounge chairs. Ikat patterned pillows and a crackled glaze table lamp accented the room. The client’s travel adventures were highlighted with a photo gallery wall.

Lots of details, great rugs, thoughtfully chosen materials,  talented craftspeople – all create  happy clients and a happy home.

Artful Kitchen Redo

blog_cathibacksplash

Artisan combined with ‘off the shelf’ tiles make for a super-cool backsplash that reflects the individuality of the mixed media artist/owner.    Designer, owner and contractor collaborated on the backsplash design by incorporating four sizes/shapes of standard stainless steel tiles with ‘jeweled’ areas of cast bronze tiles the owner had collected (hoarded!) over time.  Find these artisan tiles at  http://www.lowitzandcompany.com

The artist/client’s self-described dream kitchen includes a ‘Blue Star’ white and stainless professional gas range and sections of bowling alley lanes for a generous countertop. Salvaged birdseye maple cabinet fronts add another aesthetic dimension, to create this near-art piece.   Tons of fun, hospitality focused and definitely one of a kind.

The ‘Blue Star’ range comes in 750 colors – how will I ever choose for my dream kitchen! http://www.bluestarcooking.com
