Design Process

We offer a range of design services and will customize our approach to fit your needs and vision. We implement a 4-part process based on open and honest communication, establishing a collaborative relationship of mutual respect.

We will guide you through the entire process, adapting to your needs to promote a low-stress design experience.

Part 1) PROJECT UNDERSTANDING

We meet to discuss your design needs, intended investment, desired timeline and begin to develop your individual style. We ask a lot of questions to best understand your vision.

  • How do you live in your space?

  • Are there family treasures we should include in the project?

  • Are there furnishings you would like to re-use?

  • Do you often entertain guests?

  • What inspires your style?

Our Unique Approach

Not sure of the style or your vision for your new home?  Let us guide you through a fun design exercise we call an “Imaging Session”.  For example, if you were to describe your home to be “inviting”, we would ask you to review a series of images and tell us if any of them felt “inviting” to you.   We would do this for 5-6 key words of your choosing, looking among dozens of images.  Once we focus on 2-3 key images for each descriptive word, we’ll discuss the specific elements which contribute to the positive feeling, such as perhaps a wood finish, fabric textures, a furniture style or a lighting element.

Now we’ve established a strong design vocabulary and second, we start to identify and focus on elements of design that speak to your design goals.

part 2) DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

We begin to develop the design with a floorplan for your spaces: How do we move through the spaces? How do the spaces need to function for day to day activities? What is the right style that not only works with the building architecture but speaks to your design aesthetic?

  • Measure the spaces and create floor plans

  • Photos and 3-d sketches to illustrate the space and materials

  • Design selections of furnishings, materials, lighting, accessories and artwork

  • Custom window treatments

  • Custom cabinetry is considered and developed

  • Preliminary investments developed

part 3) IMPLEMENTATION

Now that all of the decisions are in place we create documents to acquire proposals from contractors and vendors to execute final orders. This part is all about project management!

  • Construction documents

  • Contractor interviewing / bidding

  • On-site construction visits acting as client advocate for quality and detail

  • Proposals / procurement from vendors

  • Create timelines / schedules / installations

Part 4) Install & Complete

We coordinate and execute all construction and installations, which vary based on the phases each project requires. We manage deliveries and the installation of the fixtures, furnishings, window treatments, always with an eye to quality and detail. We love to curate the client treasures, install art and accessories so that the final details are just right.

The finished home happens in stages yet there are details we can coordinate for a ‘big reveal!’
